Belly Fat Reduction
There are two type of Fat, they are
- Subcutaneous fat – layer directly beneath the skin surface.
- Visceral fat – body fat that is stored within the abdominal cavity.
What are Fat Cells?
A cell containing fat is also called adipocytes. It is a connective tissue cell that has differentiated and become specialized in the synthesis and storage of fat. The fat cell is important to the body in maintaining proper energy balance, storing calories in the form of lipids.
Under a microscope fat cells look like bulbous little spheres. Researchers have found that the number of fat cells in your body is set during adolescence and remains constant through adulthood, regardless of whether you gain or lose weight.
During weight loss fat cells shrink in size and during weight gain, they will expand in size
Subcutaneous fat is the fat stored just beneath the skin. They are normally harmless and may even protect against some diseases. The amount of subcutaneous fat you develop depends on genetics as well as lifestyle factors such as physical activity and diet.
People with a large amount of subcutaneous fat often have a large amount of visceral fat.
Causes of Subcutaneous fat
Everybody is born with subcutaneous fat. Aside from genetics, people typically have greater amount of subcutaneous fat if they:-
- Eat more calories than they burn
- Are sedentary
- Have little muscle mass
- Get little aerobic activity
- Have diabetes
- Are insulin resistant
Subcutaneous fat is an important part of your body. But if your body is storing too much of it you may be at a higher risk for your health problems including:-
- Heart disease and strokes.
- High blood pressure
- Type II diabetes
- Certain types of cancers
- Sleep apnea
- Fatty liver disease
- Kidney disease
One way of determining if you are overweight is by measuring your body mass index (BMI) which provides the ratio of your weight to height.
Another way to determine excess fat is waist to hip ratio measurement. According to World health organization, a healthy WHR is 0.9 or less in men and 0.85 or less in women.
Subcutaneous fat can be reduced by two methods:-
- Invasive procedures
- Non-invasive procedures
Invasive procedures include liposuction and Abdominoplasty
Non-invasive procedures include:-
Heat and cold assisted procedures
- Cold assisted- Cool sculpting
- Heat assisted- Sculpsure
Visceral fat is a type of body fat that is stored within the abdominal cavity. it is located near several vital organs including liver stomach and intestine. It can also build up in the arteries. Visceral fat is sometimes referred to as active fat because it can actively increase the risk of serious health problem.
We can reduce our visceral fat through exercise and balanced diet. Visceral fat cannot be removed from the body through any non invasive or invasive procedures.
We can reduce visceral fat through the following methods:-
- Exercising at least 45 minutes every day.
- Food habit with a healthy diet
- Avoid smoking and alcohol
- Reduce drinks with sugar
- Healthy sleep
Body Composition Analysis (BCA)
It is a method of describing what the body is made of, differentiating between fat, protein, minerals and body water to give a snapshot of your health. It describes your weight more accurately and provide a better glimpse into your overall health than traditional methods. Body composition analysis can accurately show changes in fat mass, muscle mass and body fat percentage.
BCA consists of the following data.
CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a fat-freezing method that aims to get rid of stubborn fat in certain parts of the body. The method is called cryolipolysis . It is a US FDA approved technology. Cool sculpting is non-invasive, which means no surgery, cuts, or anesthesia. So it carries less risk than liposuction. The procedure is mostly safe.
CoolSculpting uses freezing temperature to break down fat cells. Cold doesn’t damage other cells in the way it does on fat cells, so there should be no damage to the skin or underlying tissue.
During the procedure, the practitioner vacuums the skin above the area of fatty tissue into an applicator that cools the fat cells. The cold temperature numbs the area and some people report feeling a cooling sensation.
Most CoolSculpting procedure takes around an hour. There is no recorded time because there is no damage to skin or tissue. After the procedure, it may take around 3 months for the fat cells to leave the body. In that time the area of fat will decrease by an average of 20 percent.
It has a high success rate; they are effective for removing fat from the body. Lifestyle and other factors like exercise and a balanced diet also play a role.
SculpSure
Sculpsure is the world’s first and only FDA Cleared hyperthermic laser for non-invasive lipolysis. The device is intended for non-invasive lipolysis to affect the appearance of visible fat bulges in the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs. In addition, the device is also intended for non-invasive lipolysis of the submental areas. It is a hyperthermic treatment to increases the temperature of the fatty tissue to 42-47 degrees Celsius and sustained over 25 minutes to induce adipocyte injury.
Damaged adipocytes will be absorbed and removed gradually by the body’s inflammatory process and the volume of fat in the treatment area will therefore decrease. Each treatment takes 25 minutes without downtime. The mechanism of treatment is that the 1064nm laser raises the temperature of adipose cells between 42 degrees Celsius and 47 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes to damage their structural integrity. Over the next 3 months, the body naturally eliminates disrupted fat cells.
Sculpsure is able to reach therapeutic temperature, the fat destruction temperature zone of 42-47 degrees Celsius within 4 minutes and maintained over the next 21 minutes through its specific timing method of heating deep fat layer and cooling of the epidermis and superficial fat layer.
